I’ve always loved an açaí bowl, but they can be so expensive! For the longest time, I’d only treat myself to one occasionally because I couldn’t justify the cost of eating them regularly. And don’t even get me started on the pre-made bowls from the store—they’re still pricey and often loaded with seed oils and other unnecessary ingredients.
That’s why I started making my own. Not only is it much cheaper, but it also lets me control exactly what goes into it. No bad ingredients, no hidden sugars, just clean, wholesome goodness.
We usually buy the Sambazon Unsweetened Açaí Packs. A box of four servings costs about $6, depending on where you shop. I highly recommend going for the unsweetened version instead of the original because the original has added sugar you don’t need. If you like it sweeter, you can drizzle in honey at home!
One of the best things about açaí bowls is how customizable they are. You can change up the base ingredients, mix in different flavors, and get creative with the toppings—it’s hard to go wrong.
Since we started making açaí bowls at home, we have them at least twice a week. Honestly, some weeks we make them four or five times because I’m not exaggerating when I say I’m addicted! They’re packed with antioxidants, healthy fats, and fiber, so they’re as good for your body as they are for your taste buds.
Here’s my go-to recipe for a homemade açaí bowl—though we like to switch it up depending on the fruits we have on hand!
Açaí Bowl Ingredients
Base:
- 1 frozen açaí packet (unsweetened preferred)
- 1/2 cup raw milk (or organic whole milk)
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries or blueberries
- A drizzle of honey for sweetness
Toppings:
- Sliced banana
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Granola
- A drizzle of honey
Instructions
1. Prepare the Açaí Bowl Base
- Start by running the frozen açaí packet under some warm water for a few seconds
- Dump the açaí in the blender
- Add the frozen berries and frozen banana
- Pour in the milk
- Blend until thick and smooth. If your blender struggles, use the pulse function or a tamper to help things along. Avoid adding extra liquid to keep the texture thick and creamy.
2. Pour and Smooth
- Scoop the açaí mixture into a bowl, using a spoon to smooth out the surface. Aim for that iconic thick, spoonable consistency.
3. Decorate with Toppings
- Arrange your toppings in neat rows, concentric circles, or any pattern you like.
- Finish with a drizzle of honey!
Ta Da! Now it’s time to enjoy your homemade açaí bowl. A few tips for success to keep in mind while making your açaí bowl is to Keep It Thick – the key to a good açaí bowl is a thick, almost ice cream-like consistency. Start with less liquid and add more only if needed. Customize freely – Swap raw milk, add a scoop of protein powder, sprinkle different seeds, or use different frozen fruits to make the base!
