How To Make the Best Simple and Healthy Homemade Coffee Ice Cream

There’s nothing quite like homemade coffee ice cream, especially when it’s made with clean, wholesome ingredients. Ice cream is one of my all-time favorite desserts—I can never resist its creamy, sweet goodness. My go-to flavors are usually coffee or strawberry, and sometimes I even go crazy and mix them together!

However, most store-bought ice creams are loaded with seed oils, unnecessary additives, and excessive refined sugar. While we love the brand Ice Cream for Bears, it’s on the pricey side and only offers three flavors for now.

That’s why we decided to make our own! We use an old-fashioned soft-serve ice cream machine, but any ice cream maker will work just fine. The recipe is super simple—just mix everything together and let the machine do its magic.

Following an animal-based diet means avoiding refined sugars, so we rely on honey as our sweetener. The rest of the ingredients include organic whole milk, organic heavy cream, egg yolks, cacao, and coffee!

Why We Choose These Ingredients

When it comes to making the perfect homemade coffee ice cream, the ingredients matter just as much as the method. We stick to organic whole milk and heavy cream because they’re rich in nutrients, free from artificial hormones, and provide that creamy texture we all love. The egg yolks not only add richness but also help create a smooth, custard-like consistency that’s essential in ice cream.

Cacao is our go-to for a hint of chocolatey depth, complementing the bold flavor of the coffee without overpowering it. And, of course, we use high-quality coffee to bring a robust, authentic flavor to the ice cream—none of the artificial stuff.
